I greatly enjoy watching as these art forms interweave in a boundless space, which I find fascinating. I want to communicate through art working with the medium of the body as well as sound, mysterious energy, atmosphere, images frozen in stills, or just words. My starting point is women, femininity and women’s role in society, culture and politics. I see great strength in the way we women can devote ourselves generously and lovingly to a passion, to work, or to art, combining this devotion with quotidian experience which can be something extraordinary and exceptional.

When I think of Interstices, I feel a need to catch the fleeting moment, perhaps this has to do with transience. I would like to pause this moment. Not to lock it in a glass bottle but to place it my hands and carry it carefully so as not to lose even the smallest piece of it. It is like love. It requires attention and courage to feel it and to remain in it forever. It is the only thing that has the strength to at once reveal the smallest interstice and to protect it. I want to uncover what is hidden until the space we belong to at a given moment becomes crystal clear.

I am sure that the artists who share their work as part of Interstices have a unique ‘inner voice’. I call them ‘movers of the heart’ who can guide us, the audience, like Charon through these interstices and cracks.

I dedicate Interstices to Jolanta Brach-Czaina. Deep inside I feel that she has contributed to its creation.
